It's Official, Black Bike Week Has Been Canceled! PDF Print E-mail

This Just out, Myrtle Beach SC Mayor has posted the following message in regards to biker activity in his city. As you can see, the city has all but eliminated the annual event!

Dear Visitors,

Myrtle Beach is no longer the location for two long-running motorcycle events. After many years, our residents grew weary of three weeks of noise and traffic congestion each May, and they asked City Council to end the events. As a result, the Harley-Davidson Dealers Association Spring Rally and the Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest will not be held in Myrtle Beach.

This was a difficult decision. Myrtle Beach welcomes visitors year-round, but the giant motorcycle rallies simply grew too large. Our staff, residents and businesses strained to keep up with these huge single-focus events. It may surprise you, but our economy is much healthier with a fully diversified visitor base, instead of a concentration on one or two extremely large events.

Please know that Myrtle Beach is not anti-biker or anti-motorcycle. We want folks to come on the vehicle of their choice and enjoy all of the things Myrtle Beach has to offer. We are ending the motorcycle-related rallies because they grew too big and lasted too long. The huge rallies even kept visitors away from Myrtle Beach, and that's not good.

For everyone's safety and welfare, City Council has added a few new rules and regulations. We believe these new laws will make Myrtle Beach a safer and more friendly destination. For example, with your safety in mind, we now require that all motorcycle riders and passengers wear a helmet and eye protection. We also have a 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. curfew for everyone under 18. These and other rule changes are explained on this web site.

Thank you for understanding. As you know, Myrtle Beach is a great place to visit, and we welcome you at any time. I look forward to your next visit and am confident that you will have a great time in Myrtle Beach!

Sincerely,

John Rhodes
Mayor

It is What It Is! PDF Print E-mail
Many of you have probably heard rumors of “big things” happening in Louisville, KY and Cincinnati, OH. The purpose of this statement is to let everyone know the facts. We can assure you that the truth is more exciting than anything you may have heard.

First of all, an outlaw MC club didn't shut down Ground Breakers MC or Fame Riders MC of Cincinnati, OH.

The story begins about 18 months ago when several club Presidents began discussing the possibility of unifying Down2Ride MC, FAME Riders MC and Ground Breakers MC. This eventually led to a meeting about 2 months ago between the Club Presidents. This was a significant, historic, and unprecedented event. For the first time ever, representatives from these clubs, who have been in intense conversation for months, actually sat down together in the same room to discuss the possibility of uniting! Members in that meeting were open to the possibility and acknowledged the potential benefit to all club members in the Louisville and Cincinnati areas. This led to a series of meetings where all three clubs established a trust that has rarely been seen in the M/C world before.

Secondly, we would like to dispel some of the misunderstandings that have emerged. Equal parties looking to improve the MCs in both cities mutually agreed to this unification and these discussions. None of the clubs were on the verge of “folding.” In fact, it would have been easier to maintain the status quo. The MCs could have gone on as they were; however, the clubs involved believe that combining all three clubs was fundamentally the right thing to do.

We’re the same brothers that you kicked it with, rode with and supported on an individual basis. The only difference now is that we’re one club, one family, with one vision. Down2Ride is not trying to be better than anybody, nor or we trying to be bigger than anybody or compete. We’re just doing Down2Ride. No single person is behind this. This is a combined effort. Compromises will be necessary, but consider what we can gain.

Sincerely Yours,
•  BIG TAY NATIONAL PRESIDENT
•  REDD NATIONAL PRESIDENT
•  BRK-A-WAY- VICE NATIONAL PRESIDENT
